Reading Classes for Kids

Building Confident, Engaged Readers

Jersey City – Hoboken – Union City – Online
Group Classes & Private Tutoring
PreK – Grade 2

Our reading program supports all levels—from phonics and decoding to fluency and reading comprehension. Taught by experienced teachers and reading specialists, small group classes use proven strategies and engaging texts to build vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.

We focus on fostering not just stronger reading skills, but also a love of literature, helping students develop curiosity, imagination, and critical thinking through books and guided discussions. Parents often see improvement not only in schoolwork but also in their child’s motivation to read at home.

At AlphaMinds Academy, families can choose from a wide range of literacy-focused programs that support learners from Pre-K through high school. In addition to reading, our classes cover essay writing, math, logic, and more, ensuring a well-rounded foundation for academic success.

For older students, we also offer specialized essay writing classes that strengthen argumentation, organization, and clarity—skills essential for middle school, high school, and beyond.

Reading placement is based on the child’s current reading level and prior coursework; a placement assessment is available for families unsure of the right level.

Our Reading classes cover a combination of essential reading skills, including phonics, decoding, reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The emphasis varies by level, with younger and emerging readers focusing more on foundational reading skills and more advanced students working increasingly on fluency, vocabulary development, and deeper reading comprehension.

Both. Reading instruction is available in small-group classes as well as private one-on-one lessons. Small groups provide structured, level-appropriate instruction, while private lessons can be tailored more closely to a student’s individual reading needs and goals.

Our reading classes are designed primarily for students from PreK through Grade 2, with placement based on reading ability as well as age and grade. Reading I is for emerging readers who are new to reading or reading at Levels A–D; Reading II is recommended for students reading at Levels G–J or slightly above; and Reading III is for students reading at Level M or higher.

If you are unsure which class is the best fit, please email us at info@alphamindsacademy.com to request a placement assessment.

Teachers monitor each child’s progress throughout the semester through classwork, reading activities, and ongoing observation. Parents can follow what is being covered through our weekly homework portal, and at the end of each semester, teachers provide a detailed, personalized progress report outlining the student’s strengths, progress, and areas for continued improvement.
